Since taking office in January 2017, President Donald Trump has made a number of promises to the American people. During his campaign and on his first day in office, Trump laid out a number of initiatives and policy goals that he vowed to accomplish. As he nears the end of his first term, many are questioning whether he has kept these promises.
One of Trump’s key promises on his first day in office was to build a wall along the southern border of the United States. While construction on the wall has begun, it has faced numerous legal challenges and funding hurdles. As of now, only a small portion of the wall has been completed and it remains unclear if Trump will be able to fulfill this promise by the end of his term.
Another major promise Trump made on his first day was to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Despite efforts by Republicans in Congress to pass a new healthcare bill, they ultimately failed to do so. Trump has made some changes to healthcare policy through executive orders, but he has not been able to fully repeal and replace Obamacare as he promised.
On the economic front, Trump promised to bring back manufacturing jobs to the United States and renegotiate trade deals to benefit American workers. While the economy has seen some growth during Trump’s presidency, the trade war with China and other countries has had negative effects on certain industries. Additionally, many of the manufacturing jobs that were lost in previous years have not fully returned.
In terms of foreign policy, Trump promised to bring American troops home from overseas conflicts and focus on America first. While he has made some progress in reducing the number of troops in certain areas, American military involvement in places like Afghanistan and Syria continues. Trump has also faced criticism for his handling of diplomatic relations with countries like North Korea and Iran.
Overall, it is clear that Trump has made progress on some of his day one promises, but has fallen short on others. As the 2020 election approaches, voters will have to decide whether they believe Trump has fulfilled his promises and whether they want to give him another term in office.
